To all members of the West Australian Repeater Group Inc.
Thank you very much for your continued support over the last year. With your subscriptions, you have kept WARG on air for another year, and helped improve our network of repeaters in VK6.
The time has come for subscriptions to be paid for the 2023/2024 period.
WARG Annual Subscriptions are still only $25 per year. One of the cheapest clubs in VK6.
Subscriptions can be paid by bank transfer as usual to the following account:
BSB 633 000 Account No. 144144953 at Bendigo Bank. Remember to identify yourself with your call sign when transferring funds so we know who it is from.
Electronic funds transfer is preferred, but we still take cheques to PO Box 2513 Mt. Claremont 6010 or cash at meetings and events.
The next WARG meeting is to be held Monday 3rd April 2023 at the 1st Pelican Point Sea Scout Group, 12 Australia II Drive Crawley. (Down the end past the yacht club) Doors open at 19:00 for a 19:30 start. Tea and coffee are available. All are welcome.
Files for Adam VK6XR’s D-Star presentation are available from the WARG SharePoint via the below link. There is a PDF and a PPS (PowerPoint) file to download and watch while Adam does his presentation via Skype –
Adam has extensive knowledge on the topic and has recently completed a long-term project of back-end work on the VK6RWN D-Star system, in the process upgrading the Server and network gateway to allow access to the full range of current D-Star features. (With the system back in more regular use, we have found a couple of hiccups on the RF side affecting the 2m performance – these are being investigated right now, and hopefully resolved soon…)
Adam’s presentation will cover relevant history and how the D-Star system works, main technical features and the practical side of getting on air – registration, setting up radios and hotspots, and much more.
The meeting format will be altered accordingly – instead of the usual business, there will be a short welcome and introduction, followed by the D-Star presentation, and questions / discussion afterwards. Once the presentation is concluded, we will have a short tea break, and reconvene for a shortened meeting focused on more urgent matters for discussion / decision.
The next WARG meeting is to be held Monday 13th March 2023 (Due to 6th March being a public holiday) at the 1st Pelican Point Sea Scout Group, 12 Australia II Drive Crawley. (Down the end past the yacht club) Doors open at 19:00 for a 19:30 start. Tea and coffee are available. All are welcome.
Our first meeting for 2023 is this coming Monday, 6th February, at the 1st Pelican Point sea scouts venue, 12 Australia II Drive in Crawley, opposite UWA. We aim to get the doors open at 7 for a 7:30pm start, with the usual tea, coffee and Tim Tams etc available for a gold coin donation.
On behalf of the Committee, I would like to thank all WARG members who assisted in any way during 2022, from keeping the admin side going to attending site working bees, updating and fixing back-end systems, and everything in between. A few bits & pieces happened over the Christmas / New Year period, but my impression is that many of us took the opportunity to have a good break, after a long year – I hope this was a good time for all, and that everyone is surviving the hot weather these past couple of weeks!
Now that January is behind us, it’s time to look forward again and see what we can achieve for the year ahead. I am finalising an Agenda and will circulate in the next day or so.
FYI, other scheduled WARG meeting dates for 2023 are as follows:
